Pregnant and living in South West London?

I can help you! My name is Lisa and I am a birth and postnatal doula. Find out more about what a doula does by clicking here. And find out more about me and my skills and experience here.

I have lived in South West London for the past 20 years. It still feels strange for someone who grew up in the wilds of Cornwall to say that! But South West London is my home, and has my heart. I have lived in Tooting, Battersea, Raynes Park, New Malden and now Wimbledon. I regularly work with clients booked at Kingston, St. George’s, Chelsea and Westminster and St Helier hospitals. If you would like to learn more about my experiences of these different maternity units then I wrote a popular blog post on the topic here.

Why hire me as your doula in South West London?

Birth doulas can cover a pretty wide area for support but there are always advantages to choosing someone local, some examples are:

  • helping you understand which of your local hospitals (we have so much choice in SW London!) might be more aligned to your birth plan, and supporting you to move hospitals if necessary. For example if you want to have a homebirth I can help you make sure you are under the correct hospital(s) that offer that service to your postcode. Or if you want to use a birth centre some are more reliably open than others - I wrote an article all about that here.
  • being able to easily visit you in early labour for reassurance / support and then pop home again if you would prefer to continue labouring in private.
  • local knowledge of useful staff members in different hospitals, providing you with contact details or sharing experiences of other clients that may help you to arrange something you want for your birth.
  • able to get to you quickly which may be particularly important for a second/subsequent baby.
  • awareness of local policies / differences between the local hospitals and be able to explain these to you: for example birth centres at St. Georges, St. Helier, Chelsea & Westminster & Kingston hospitals all have different criteria for women they recommend to birth there, different hospitals have different recommended dates for induction of labour when you are "post dates". I can help you work through these policies and come up with a plan that works for you. Having the perspective of what other local hospitals are doing can also be beneficial when you are trying to weigh up a particular decision.

Why hire Lisa as your doula in South West London?

In terms of why to hire ME, here are some areas I am particularly passionate about and where my strengths as a doula lie:

  • My priority is to help you trust your instincts as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Both research and my own experience show that what matters most isn’t exactly how birth unfolds, but whether you feel heard, respected, and confident in your choices.
  • I support all births, but I am particularly passionate about empowering those who want to have a physiological birth and can provide guidance on how to prepare for this. If you’ve explored birth statistics at local hospitals or spoken to others about their experiences, you may already know that achieving this often requires a bit of planning.
  • My professional background is an NHS Occupational Therapist, so I have a good understanding of how the healthcare system operates. I also have a lot of experience in reading health research: which means I can provide you with clear, evidence-based information to help you make informed decisions during pregnancy and birth.
  • Postnatal support is another area I deeply care about. My birth doula package includes two follow-up visits, plus ongoing support via WhatsApp or phone—something many families find invaluable, especially when establishing breastfeeding.
  • People often ask about my approach as a doula, and I’d say I sit somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, respecting birth for the transformative experience it is, whilst not being completely "crunchy"! My goal is to support you in a way that aligns with your values and vision for birth and early parenting.

You can find out more about my birth and postnatal doula packages on the relevant pages on my website or send me an email using the contact form at the bottom of the page.
