Ante-Natal Doula

I offer flexible ante-natal packages depending on the level of support you need:

*Birth Options £20

This includes:

A  2 hour session discussing your birth options and preparation of your birth plan. This plan isn't set in stone but acts as a guide for you, your partner and midwives before and during labour.

A printed copy of the birth plan after being finalised by parents(optional)

I am also happy to answer any queries by email or phone (up to 8pm) once you book this option.

*Breast Feeding/Choosing how to feed your baby Consultation  £20

This includes:

A 2 hour workshop about:

  • your feelings towards breast feeding
  • tips on how to establish effective breast feeding, including positioning and attachment
  • outline of a baby's breast feeding needs and what to do should you experience problems.

I am a trained breast feeding peer supporter and have given practical and emotional support to mothers attending the breast feeding support groups in my local area, as well as assisting the midwives in their ante-natal breast feeding workshops. Many mothers who want to breast feed but give up in the first couple of days/weeks, admit that they would have liked to continue to breast feed if they had had more support.

If you still haven't chosen which way you'd like to feed your baby, I can give you clear, concise and

non-biased information about both breast and formula feeding.

Obviously should you not wish to breast feed, I can give you information  and support about formula, bottles and feeding routines, as well as discussing effective ways of combining breast and bottle.

*Although I am offering a breast feeding consultation and did breast fed my own babies, I believe that all women have the right to feed their baby in the way they want to and I will not judge you should you wish to bottle feed your baby.  It's your choice as a mother how you feed your baby and as your doula, I will be there to support you in whichever way you like.

*Practical Baby Care £20

A two hour session looking at different baby care routines and tips on how to care for your newborn, including:

  • How to bath your a baby (most hospitals do not show you how to bath your baby anymore)
  • Nappy changing and 'contents of a nappy'
  • How to swaddle your newborn and lay your baby safely down to sleep according to latest recommendations
  • Reasons why your baby may cry and effective ways to soothe a fractious baby
  • Postnatal timeline - explaining what will be happening to your baby and your body following birth

*I can be flexible as to the session so if there's something you really want me to cover, we can discuss it beforehand and I'll adapt the session.

This is a good idea too for dads/partners to give confidence before the baby is born and it's in your own home.  I can give you up to date non-biased information about safe ways in which to care for your newborn. Also good for second time parents who would like to refresh their knowledge.

*Practical Pregnancy Support in your home £10.00 per hour.

As with my post-natal packages, I can offer practical help before you have your baby: helping shop for nursery items, light housework and preparing simple meals whilst you rest and I will listen to any concerns or worries you may have about your pending labour and birth.  I can even help organise your baby shower.

This package is especially helpful; if you are having a difficult pregnancy and need extra help at home, if you have other children and need to time to rest, if you're having a multiple birth and are finding housework difficult or if your partner is away and you just need an extra pair of hands.

This practical pregancy support is taken in minimum blocks. I'm flexible within the week as to how you book so please call me to discuss options.  You can even book me as a one off, for example if you have a hospital appointment and need me to look after your other children or come with you to hospital.

You could choose any, all or just one of the packages - it's entirely up to you - it's your baby and your birth.
